Crone Issue #1

Crone is a story set in a medieval world filled with brave warriors, giant bears and thieves. This comic follows a young and fierce warrior called Bliss. Her enemies underestimate her because she is “ only a woman but you will quickly find her cutting through waves of them like it’s nothing. As our hero jumps into her greatest battle the pages cut to her many years later as an old woman, a hermit living on a mountain. We are alluded to a very long and difficult life between her great battle and now. Bliss seemingly wishes to die and calls her life long and tedious. We are not shown the reason for her change from a fierce warrior to a still fierce, but tired old woman. While Bliss still remains a great warrior, as we are shown when she fights and kills a giant bear, she is no longer so eager to fight and refuses to when asked, that is until her old ally tells her of something happening that will be detrimental to the life of her people. Crone is a very intriguing story that seems to delve deeper into the mind and heart of great fabled warriors shown in other comics and cartoons. Like in a cartoon like “He-Man” the villain is big and overtop, with a skull mask, and the heroes are muscular and wear nothing but clothes to ensure they are showing as much of their muscles as possible. While it does have some of these goofy tropes, Crone seems to want to show more than muscle and spectacle, it shows how living a life like that would affect a hero later in life, and how a major over the top evil as their villain D’Kayde would affect the hero and their people, not only physically but mentally. Crone shows some great spectacle and action and delves into more mature themes than some other comics might. I personally am very much looking forward to the release of it’s second issue on December 4th, and if over the top medieval action and violence mixed with some mature and serious themes interests you than you should definitely check it out too.
