Geek’d Has Seen The New Halloween!

40 Years in the Making, Hollywood Finally Delivers a Sequel Worthy of Carpenter’s Original.

The new Halloween movie from director David Gordon Green does what few slasher films in this genre has: introduces us to what it’s like being a slasher victim and surviving. Laurie Strode’s life was forever marred by that Halloween night long ago. Today’s Laurie is no longer the nerdy girl from 40 years ago. She’s now a certified bad ass! Much like Sara Connor from T2, she’s locked and loaded and ready for the return of Michael Myers. And he does return. Myers has never been more frightening – he has no mercy in his heart and is the killing machine that we’ve all been told that he is. He will not stop, regardless of the victim being man, women or child. Unlike the Terminator, this Michael is not indestructible, but he can definitely take some hits, which lends to his myth. The movie also introduces us to 3 generations of strong female characters, all having been affected by grandmother Strode’s trauma all those years ago. This really is a movie about trauma, and how it affects more than just the victim. The overlap into personal lives is felt, and has lasted years, showing Michael’s victims aren’t always at the end of his knife. Sometimes they’re the broken relationships that linger long after the initial attacks. Only together, though, can this family overcome these mental and physical scars. As director, Green has done an amazing job blending the late 70’s and modern day into a movie duo that will be together be timeless.

The best thing about this movie was that it’s great both for long time horror fans and new comers. You don’t need to see the the first Halloween to enjoy this one. But if you’re a long time fan you will pick up on details and references that the writers have subtly embedded within.

Geek’d gives this a 8 out of 10, and encourages you to go check it out. It’s a worthy sequel, and makes good on the promises that all those other entries into the Halloween legacy tried to deliver.
