Action packed and surprisingly emotional, the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ is back in top form. If you liked the first one, then you’ll be glad to hear that DP2 doesn’t stray from what made the original such a special treat. Rather, it adds to it without being formulaic. Cable is a fantastic baddie, Domino is my new favorite character, X-Force has quite a few ‘memorable yet brief’ scenes and Ryan Reynolds proves that the first one wasn’t a fluke. The bits with taxi driver Dopinder wear a little thin as he seeks his place in all of this, but it’s a small price to pay for the overall experience. I’ll need to see it again, to catch all the jokes I missed while laughing and to try and freeze frame some of the visual innuendo and cameos. And you should see it too. Let’s send a clear message to the movie making machines that if they want more of our money then keep them coming just like this, a good story wrapped in a message with heart. And lots of blood. So much blood! And the best post credits scene to date. Maximum effort pays off.
(Plus once you’ve seen it I dare you to try and keep the #holyshitballs theme from getting stuck in your head. You don’t know what that means yet, but you will.)
