There have been a ton of reviews for this show already, and the diehard fans have already seen it. So, why bother with a post? Because, this is a review for the rest of us. Those who like the movies, laugh at the over the top personae of Bruce Campbell’s “Ash” character and then enjoy the living hell he has to go through due to his own incompetence. We’re not in love with the series, but have enjoyed seeing it and appreciate it for what it is.
But this show takes all of that to a new level.
This is the movie that the fans have been waiting 30 years to see. Personally, I was surprised with the level of quality put into the show and was not disappointed.
The characters are believable and well-acted. The chemistry between Ash and his costars is rock solid, and the fight scene choreography and visual effects are top notch.
And most of all, the scary scenes are actually scary. There is a real tension to some of the scenes where the dead begin to make their presence known, and the blood and viscera are present (in buckets) but never feel gratuitous.
Funny. Violent. Scary. Entertaining. If they can keep up the pace and the scares, we think Raimi and Campbell have done one hell of a job, which is translating all that the fans love into a watchable tv show for the rest of us too.
