Geek’d Reviews Wonder Woman!

With the Hollywood Hype Machine in full effect, it’s hard to know which reviews to trust and which are fabricated for financial means. We at geek’d like to keep things pretty straight forward and simple: Wonder Woman is a marvelous movie and deserves your hard earned geek money.

With that out of the way, here’s the why: DC will make you believe in the gods again.

wonder-woman-poster-997872The storyline is solid, a bit long, but well crafted. The cast is amazingly enjoyable to watch as they interact and Gal Gadot is WonderWoman. She absolutely embodies this role. She does a fabulous job of being a goddess warrior, but also plays the vulnerable and innocent Diana with a warmth and sincerity as she discovers the world of man. She’s still a child, full of wonder and joy but also very driven to fulfill her duty as our protector. The origin story goofs and gaffes of the ‘fish out of water’ hero character are played here with terrific comedic timing and supported by a strong story line and writing. Diana has a lot of questions, to which her co-stars try their best to explain, much to our enjoyment.

Chris Pine is Captain Steve Trevor, spy for the British and comic relief for the large part of the movie. Just like every other movie he’s in he somehow gets to ride a motorcycle. Again! Yet, he plays the part of hero/side-kick magnificently, capable as a leading man action star who knows that this movie isn’t about ‘him’, it’s about ‘her’ and plays the role appropriately well.

The villains are great, the scenery of war torn Europe during World War I is the perfect backdrop for the storyline and the characters are all enjoyable and well rounded.

It’s so nice to see DC really win with this movie. Can’t express how much we wanted this to be good, but had a sense of reservation that prevented much anticipation on my part.

Which is a good thing.

DC and Warner Bros. earned some of my trust back, and they’ve done right by this character. They wow’d me, and I think they’ll wow you too.

What do you think?
